Tunneling Phenomena in Cosmology: Some Fundamental Problems
نویسنده
چکیده
The fundamental problem of how tunneling in thermal medium is completed is addressed, and a new time scale of order 1/friction for its termination, which is usually much shorter than the Hubble time, is pointed out. Enhanced non-linear resonance is responsible for this short time scale. This phenomenon occurs when the semiclassical periodic motion in a metastable potential well resonates with one of the environment harmonic oscillators coupled to its motion. ∗ Talk given at COSMO2K, held at Cheju, Korea, September 4-8, 2000. To appear in the Proceedings (World Scientific).

Decoherence on Quantum Tunneling in the Multi-Dimensional Wave Function Approach
We consider fundamental problems on the understanding of the tunneling phenomena in the context of the multi-dimensional wave function. In this paper, we reconsider the quantum state after tunneling and extend our previous formalism to the case when the quantum state before tunneling is in a squeezed state. Through considering this problem, we reveal that the quantum decoherence plays a crucial...
متن کاملLoop Quantum Cosmology and Boundary Proposals
For many years, the most active area of quantum cosmology has been the issue of choosing boundary conditions for the wave function of a universe. Recently, loop quantum cosmology, which is obtained from loop quantum gravity, has shed new light on this question. In this case, boundary conditions are not chosen by hand with some particular physical intuition in mind, but they are part of the dyna...
متن کاملSpecial Issue on Proton Transfer Processes
It is well established that the hydrogen bond plays crucial role in many areas of physical, chemical and biological phenomena. The relevant proton transfer reactions are the simplest but very important in many chemical problems as well as in some biological processes. It appears that the low-barrier hydrogen bond (LBHB) for this displacement may play fundamental role in stabilizing intermediate...
متن کاملRoom Temperature Hydrogen Sensor Based on Single-Electron Tunneling Between Palladium Nanoparticles
In this paper, we present the results of single-electron tunneling in two-dimensional (2D) hexagonal closed packed arrays of palladium nanoparticles. After inspecting the emergence of Coulomb blockade phenomena, we demonstrate the possibilities of using these arrays as a single-electron tunneling based hydrogen sensor. We assumed arrays of palladium nanoparticles with diameters of 3.5 and 6...
متن کاملTunneling and Chaos
Over the preceeding twenty years, the role of underlying classical dynamics in quantum mechanical tunneling has received considerable attention. A number of new tunneling phenomena have been uncovered that have been directly linked to the set of dynamical possibilities arising in simple systems that contain at least some chaotic motion. These tunneling phenomena can be identified by their novel...
